Take time to stop and smell the Natto...

5 March 2005

Thanks to all of you who e-mailed me about meeting up in DC, but my business trip has cancelled at the last minute so I'll have to take a rain check on the invitations. I will be making it there some time in the future, just not sure exactly when...

--

I finally got around to buying myself a Lomo LC-A. The last time I was in Shinjuku I stopped by Map Camera and they happened to have one in their used camera section. So far I put three rolls of film though it (one roll of Provia 400 color slide film and two of regular negative film) and I am pleased with the results.

I'm still very new at scanning film, so currently the quality I get from my Canon 1D Mark II far surpases even what I am able to scan from my medium format color slides, but that should change when I get a little better at this.

Shooting a lomo sure is a welcome change from a large digital SLR. It is very compact, and is great fro stealth street photography since there is no loud "Kachunk" of mirror slap to alert my subjects. I look forward to burning through a lot more film (both 35mm and medium format) in the near future.

I am by no mans abandoning digital, but rather just exploring the more tactile and slower paced side of the art.

Now that my work schedule has slowed back down to a more normal pace we can all look forward to more frequent updates once again.

There has been somewhat of a dry spell lately, and I do apologize for that. As an apology I have once again ressurected some past Photo of the Day pictures (along with a bunch of others) and added a soundtrack to go along with them.

Just a quick reminder to take some time each day to stop and smell the Natto...

Note: If you are able to, play it in full screen mode. It has a lot more impact that way.

This place still holds endless fascination for me, and I hope to be abel to pass on even a little bit of what it feels like to live here.
