Due to the interest generated by the last entry in
regards to Japanese houses/apartments I have posted
some pictures of some real estate advertisements of
some places for rent in Yokosuka. This should give you
an idea of the layout of a typical Japanese
apartment or mansion.
Some of the more expensive places you see are being
marketed towards Americans. No Japanese person in their
right mind would pay rents that high, especially when
interest rates on home loans are so unbelievably low
in Japan.

I was planning on doing an update last night but after
dinner I had a couple of beers and decided to lie down
on the heated carpet in front of the TV. Well, 3 and
a half hours later, waking up at 12:30 I realized that
I had fallen asleep passed out. Before heading
up to bed I had just enough energy to post a new photo
of the day.
(I'm such a lush)
Mom, if you are reading this you an take comfort
in the fact that I'm not out late each night drinking
up a storm. (As much as I would like
to do it, I am just not capable of it anymore. A good
bender once in a while is till fun, but I just don't
have the liver to do it every night.)

This weekend I will be selling framed photos at an
Asian Bazaar here on Yokosuka Base. I have a whole bunch
of new material this time so I hope to do well.
I also have a couple of sales coming up in February
as well. One of the sales will be on base, and another
one will be up at the New Sanno Hotel in Tokyo. I did
the same event at the New Sanno last year and it went
very well. I anticipate more of the same this year,
especially since I now have more material to show. I
have also started to go larger with my photos. In addition
to 8x12's and 11x14's, I now also offer 12x18's, 16x20's
and a few 20x30's.

After living in Japan for a while there is one thing
that I have become absolutely addicted to.
The Japanese "Obento", or "boxed lunch".
You can buy them at supermarkets, convenience stores,
departments stores, all kinds of places. There are even
littel shops that do nothing but make Obentos. And I'm
sure that if you looked hard enough you could find them
being offered in vending machines.
But the best Obento's are the ones made at home.
Today Junko packed me an Obento that contained the
following:
Gohan with furikake (Rice with seaweed seasoning)
Korokke (Fried potato cake)
Tamago (Boiled egg)
Stir fried snow peas
Shake (Grilled Salmon Steak)
It is the perfect lunch. Substantial enough yet still
light so I don't experience any of the early afternoon
lethargy normally associated with a traditional lunch
(such as Taco Bell..."traditional" for me
anyway...)

The Shutterbug
website has an excerpt from their magazine article
about photoblogs. Among others, Sushicam is mentioned.
In addition to the print magazine, the website
also contains the screen capture from Sushicam that
they used.
Cool.
And be sure to check out the other photoblogs mentioned.
They look like really good sites. I feel honored that
Sushicam was deemed worthy of being singled out as an
example photoblog by Shutterbug.

In an effort to spread the love site traffic
I have decided to plug a couple more websites. One is
more focused on Japan than the other, but both have
Japanese'ish content to offer.
After nearly 5 years online now and almost 300 posts
to get to this point the current level of Sushicam site
traffic has been hard earned. But no sense in hoarding
all this attention for myself, so here are a couple
other sites that you may find interesting:
Daniels
Crazy Life Adventures - From Hiroshima. It's a new
blog begun just this month and should give all you Japanophiles
out there a chance to see what is going on in Hiroshima
and Western Japan.
Chris
Point Eight - "You only live once, so make
the most out of it and follow your heart. Have fun with
your life!" Chris lives on Southern California,
but his heart really belongs on Japan. This site is
one for the younger sect of the Sushicam audience. It's
way to hip for geezers like me. Actually, the
only "hip" I have in connection with Chris
is the hip I would break if I tried some of his skateboard
moves. ^_^

I picked up an old Canon A-1 35mm film SLR from ebay
this week. (Yes...film. Some people still use it!) It
came bundled with a 50mm f1.8 lens and the combination
is an absolute featherweight compared to the 1D Mark
II.
I'll put some film thorugh it over the coming weeks
and see how the pictures turn out. I may even get industrious
and scan some of the shots for presentation here.
