Akemashite Omedetou! (Happy New Year!)
Well, my New Years plans didn't quite work out as I
had intended. Instead of a wild night on the town we
ended up staying at home, watching some pride and K-1
fights and chowing down on cheap pizza and fine champagne.
All in all it was a good night. Plenty of entertainment,
and joy of joys, no hangover in the morning.
In the morning Junko and I drove up to Tokyo to spend
New Years day with her parents and sister. In true Japanese
New Years form we ate a lot, drank a lot, and generally
had a great time. Late in the afternoon I headed home
by train while Junko will be staying up in Tokyo for
a few extra days.

Today I took a short trip to Kamakura to see what was
going on there in the ways of New Years celebrations.
Bad Idea. The place was incredibly crowded. The cue
to get into Tsurugaoka Hachimangu shrine was the worst
I have ever seen.
People were blanketing the main entrance lane and as
far as you could see it was a sea of black haired heads.
I stood in line for a while but when I realized that
they were only letting in small groups of people at
a time I decided to skip it. Production line style religion
is not my idea of a good time. When I go to see a place
I like to wander around at my leisure and really "see"
the place.

2005.
Damn. I can't believe how fast 2004 flew by.
Here's to another good year come and gone, and with
hopes for another good year in 2005.
