Older man that is me

19 December 2005

I once heard an elderly man get asked how he felt about getting another year older. Without missing a beat he replied, "It sure beats the alternative now doesn't it?"

Quite a good way o look at it if you think about it. What is a year other than some unit of time arbitrarily assinged to coincide with how much time it takes for the Earth to revolve around the sun.

I guess thats how I feel about aging. You see, I turn 35 tomorrow, and to tell the truth, I don't feel a DAY over 34. :P

For some reason I don't think about age that much. (if at all, really) The only real birthdays that I marked as significant were my 21st and 16th since I could then legally drink and drive. (Wow, that sure sounded bad....But all kidding aside I assure all of you I never get behind the wheel even after having so much as a sip of alcohol)

Though I guess for men it is a little different.

I know a lot of women that are living in absolute dread waiting for that next birthday to roll around.

To celebrate the occasion an evening full of Izakayas and Karaoke is on order. It should be loads of fun, especially now that I have finally kicked the cold that had been dogging me for the past 5-6 days.

It seems that Japans 2 year ban on imported U.S. beef has ended and Yoshinoya will soon have their trademark beef bowls back.

Hip hip horay!

I can't wait.

While ive become quite fond of their pork substitute over the past couple of years, I can't wait to get my first signature serving of their most famous of offerings.

It seems that the Japanese police have been watching a lot of CSI Miami lately because they now have a new way of catching gropers on crowded trains. They take fiber samples from the suspected offenders hands and then match them up to the clothes of the person that was groped. So far this new form of evidence has greatly increased the number of gropers charged with the crime.

A lot of todays shots were taken with my R-D1. "Street grabs" are what most of them are. Not fine art by any stretch of the imagination, but they do have the allure of authenticity. Some shot from the hip, some with just a little more setup and thought put into them, but all of them a real slice of life from Japan.

I really am loving my R-D1...
