I'm bAaaack!

3 August 2005

I had a good two week break from Japan. One week in DC, the next in Upper Michigan.

I left during the rainy season, but now that I have returned we are in full bore summer. Enough heat and humidity to drown a fish... But it's all good. Just one more reason to make frequent stops at beer vending machines.

I’m feeling pretty good seeing as I only arrived back in Japan on Saturday night. Either I am getting used to these trans-pacific flights, or I am living in a perpetual state of jetlag. I’m not sure which… I guess if I crash a few days from now I will know it is the latter.

I have finally figured out the trick to managing a trans-pacific flight. In the event I am unable to get an upgrade to 1st class, this is what I do:

Step 1: Turn down NO opportunity to get an alcoholic drink of sorts.

2: During the first meal I pop a couple of sominex.

3: Once the drugs kick in and I start drooling, allow myself to nod off and enter “hibernation”.

4. Get woken up by the woman next to me since her bladder is the size of a tic-tac.

5. repeat step 4 a couple of times until it occurs to my drug hazed mind that I can just trade seats with her and spend the rest of the flight in unconscious bliss.

As you can see, I still have a little ways to go before I have the system perfected…

I picked up an iriver H10 while I was home. It has a built in voice reorder so now I am able to capture some sounds in addition to the sights of Japan.

I tested it out today and recorded a short mp3 of the train platform announcement at Yokosuka Chuo station. The last two photos of todays update go along with the audi clip.

Towards the end of the clip you hear the south bound train take off, followed by the North bound train entering the station.

Train station audio clip

I’m not sure if I will go crazy and start podcasting, but at the very least this will allow me to capture and post some of the more distinct environmental sounds from Japan.

My bandwidth limit got blasted last month. Not sure why, but to remedy the problem I have upgraded my hosting account so now we have 3 GB
of storage and 100 GB of monthly bandwidth to play with. Muwahahahaa... Muwahahahaha...!! Muwahahahaha..!!!!!!....

Lets see how long it is before I need to upgrade again.

I appreciate everyones patience with last months prints raffle. I have already received emails from some of he winners and will start placing the orders for the print winners tomorrow.

I'll try and be a little more coherent and on target in the next update... Still feeling a little travel-frazzeled here...
