The addiction continues

20 April 2005

I spent the past weekend selling framed prints at a huge asian bazaar on Yokosuka base. Saturday was extremely busy, Sunday a bit slower, but all in all it was a good weekend.

I sold quite a few photos (Around 70 I think) so I had a lot less stuff to pack up at the end of the sale. Now I've got to get busy and decide what new photos to print out for my next sale. There are some really popular shots that always sell well and I will be sure to get more copies of those, but I also want to take this opportunity to get a whole bunch of new ones printed. You know, keep my inventory fresh.

I like to limit my inventory to what I can pack into my car. This keeps me from taking multiple trips when I set up for a sale. Now that I have freed up a good chunk of space I have to start wading through my archives to come up with some replacements.

As a reward to myself, I used some of my profits from this past weekend and did a little eBay shopping last night, scoring a great price on a nice Hasselblad 500 C/M with a Carl Zeiss Planar 80mm f2.8 lens, waist level finder, and 3 film backs. I can't wait to put some film through it... The addiction continues...

Switching gears for a minute, let me talk about some current events in the world.

Today a new Pope was selected. It seems to have been a pretty unanimous event since it did not take too long for the final decision.

Upon being selected, the first thing the new Pope did was to choose a new name. (I had never realized this happened since I was too young to understand this at the time when Pop John Paul II assumed the office)

This got me to thinking.

There are a lot of similarities between Rap Stars and the Pope.

1. Each take "Stage Names" which can differ considerably from their real names. Case in point, Germany's Joseph Ratzinger, as the 265th pope has choosen the name "Benedict XVI".

In keeping with the times I think a name with a little more pizazz, a littel more zip may have been just what the Catholic Church needed to reverse their flaging church attendance in the western world.

Maybe "Eggy One Six" or "G of the Cloth" or Spiritual Torpedo" would have connected better with todays generation......

Then again, maybe not.

2. Both become fabulously wealthy. (Granted the Pope is likely not able to splurge on hot cars, hot women, all night parties, etc, but then again, I am sure the Vatican has a much better dental plan than your average record label....)

There are plenty of festivals on tap this spring. One I will be sure not to miss is the May 29th Yabusame Festival in Aburatsubo on the Miura Penninsula. I attended this same festival a while back, but my photo gear at the time (Olympus E10) was not quite up to the task and I missed a lot of the action shots.

I can't wait to see how the 1D Mark II handles it...
