Sabbatical

17 October 2004

One more day and I leave for Michigan.

I can't wait.

Work has been a lot busier than normal as of late and I really need the break.

I also found out the good news yesterday that my younger brother and his family had just arrived in Michigan from Thailand where they now live. It has been a while since I last saw them so it is nice that our travel plans happened to coincided.

I'm not sure how much fall color I will see when I get there. Although about half of the leaves are already on the ground, I think I may still have a chance to catch some fall color when I first get there. (Unless the wet snow and winds from a storm they received yesterday did not knock the rest of the leaves to the ground...) I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I'll be back in Japan on November 2nd, so there will not be much new going on here until I get back. (Although the photo of the day will continue to update as usual)

--

Like most other places in the Northern Hemisphere, a chill has begun to descend on Japan. For the first time this year we turned on the heat in our house.

I kind of like it.

Summers are great, but a change in the seasons is always a welcome thing for me. It keeps me aware of the fact that time is marching on, and it also provides a new set of scenery.

--

Since I have been pretty busy with work recently, I have had to delve into my archive of photos for this update, and as a result, most all of today's photos were taken during my last trip to Kyoto.

It seems that whenever I am in need of pulling together some photos for an update my Kyoto archives always come to the rescue.

It is such a photogenic place that I get a much higher percentage of keepers when I am shooting there. I am sure those of you who have been there know exactly what I am talking about.

I'm sure that after a two and a half week sabbatical from Japan I will once again be seeing this place with fresh eyes. I'll have my creative batteries fully charged and will be ready to get out there and capture some new light.

See you all when I get back.
